Description
Eczema (also referred to as eczema dermatitis and exema) is a poorly known, non-contagious inflammatory skin disease. There are two main types of eczema: atopic eczema, characterized by a genetic predisposition and its association with other allergies and affecting mainly young children, and contact eczema, more common in adults, which is an allergic reaction of cellular immunological hypersensitivity in contact with a given substance. There is also a form of irritative contact eczema, where repeated friction mechanisms act by causing an inflammatory reaction that leads to the same clinical picture as other forms of eczema. Although the mechanism has not yet been exposed, a large consensus exists to associate, at least partially, the state of stress with the importance of the manifestations of the majority of cases of atopic eczema.
